*Update* Performance/ Or Object at Large (1/31/2010)

Okay, so I've made quite a bit of progress during the weekend. Just finished making the renders for the cloth parts of the project and stitched them together; double layered thick/delicate patterned fabric, double layered cotton, hem/bias tape lining, grommett/eye-lets with lacing. Also fiberglassing was a bit tricky -- hit n' miss if you will. But whatever the outcome is, I'll stick with it. The final draft(s) of armor have been hardened, sanded down, spotted and some primed. Will finish the process sometime this week. Don't worry, I'll save some work for when I get to class on Tuesday and Thursday. Most likely will only be doing some touch ups to the fabric and designing the mounting hardware. Next--next week will be painting the armor plates/pieces, weathering them some, and then clear coated. Maybe some other stuff as well. Who knows. Anyway, that's all for now. Here is some picture documentation:

Gosh, who has the time to write these "blogs" any how? I sure don't. Wait...if I don't, then why is this post even here? Hmmmm...changing subjects, I had an epiphany. I've been inspired not to use fiberglass any longer. Reason why? It's too hard to use and doesn't give you good results no matter how tedious and careful you are in any part of the process. Plus it's highly toxic and will not clean off of anything. More specifically, your hands. Plus you're always on a short time limit, so to work well you must work fast. But doesn't that increase the chances of mess ups? Which is why I woke up literally at 6:30AM in the cold to work...I seriously need to find another medium *sigh*

*Update* Performance/ Or Object at Large (1/27/2010)

*Update* Performance/ Or Object at Large (1/27/2010)
So I've made some progress on my Sculpture project. And I think I am good on time. I have provided pictures of the piece in progress as well as the intended goal. This is a form of documentation verifying what torture I am enduring at this current moment in time. The materials used thus far include; styrene, hotglue (glue gun), craft-foam, and various heating materials. Next will begin making the rest of the armor -- fiberglassing everything. Ice some resin on the surface of the pieces and then sand so that the parts are evenly flat and ready to be primed, painted and then weathered. On another note. Things so far sound pretty good. But the mounting process has me puzzled. Anyway, I will post up updates as they arise. Of course I don't have a choice..

*Update* Collecting Assignment (1/27/2010)
The collection assignment has already been started. I'm scrummaging through the forum for good parts n' whatnot -- honestly doing this assignment. I have to buy every single part individually instead of in bulk. That way I won't be accused of cheating..

Enjoy,

New Sculpture Assignments (1/26/2010)

Performance/ Or Object at Large
My intended “idea” for this particular assignment is to make a right arm gauntlet shield. Basically a very unique looking arm brace that is red in color with gold piping and or highlights. The armor if you will is Japanese in composition and structure with a hint of Chinese detailing on the outer shelling. Basically the finished product can be worn on any clothing with just the feature of sliding on and locking in place. Materials consist of styrene, craft-foam, hot glue, and various other “undecided” materials. What is the reason behind this idea? Well, the main message I seek to portray is to promote an image or at least a thought of “protection” in a sense; more specifically a guardian type figure/idol. In my eyes, a right arm that wields a sword, projects an image of a person that’s an aggressor. Whereas, a right arm with a shield and no weapons promotes the thought of a protector or guardian; conversely, in many other instances, the shield is often held in the left hand for defense instead of the right. Moreover, I hope to succeed in my goal of projecting an image of a guardian or protector.

Collecting Assignment
For this particular assignment I am planning on colleting a series of paintball marker (gun) parts. However, much more accurately speaking I will be collecting autococker parts and upgrades. Many of which will be rare and genuine flagship productions from the original manufacture via buy, sell, and trading forum(s). The forums include: Pbnation.com, Customcockers.com, Mcarterbrown.com; All items and parts will consist solely of metal, aluminum, and stainless steel, of course in various colors and finishes. Ultimately, my main goal being achieved in the assignment is to begin what I started a few years back, which is buying and or collecting rare parts. So in a sense, this is essentially benefiting me more than anything, but at the same time getting credit for this class as a bonus. Being able to get my hands on great parts has always been a passion and an obsession if you will. So in turn, partaking in this assignment will be a great pleasure as well as a lot of fun. I expect to spend easily $100-200 on these parts; however, I will penny pinch most of the time. On another note, the collections will be both new and used; in many cases used.

Sculpture Assignments (3 Art Pieces) - 1/20/10

-This assignment was #70. Writing a series of goodbye's that you're willing to abide by and actually are willing to let go. An overall easy assignment, however finding a bunch that I was willing to dish out was another story. So what I have below is what are my faults and or issues if you will. I Think I could have added more, but what's left?

Writing:
Say Goodbye
-Goodbye anger
-Goodbye past
-Good bye being over-annalistic
-Goodbye procrastination
-Goodbye greed
-Goodbye fear
-Goodbye embarrassment
-Goodbye impulse buying
-Goodbye swearing
-Goodbye being naïve
-Goodbye comparing myself to others

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-The following two pictures are tied into assignment #49. The purpose of this particular assignment was to draw somebody that your friend refers to quite often. Basically draw/sketch your friend's friend essentially. Strictly drawing only by description and comparison to other people and not the actual person that you're drawing. That being said, it was very difficult -- also on another note. The drawer must use only red colored pencil. Which to me is very difficult, being as that I had no room to erase and modify. So this attempt here was a straight shot and a lame one at that. As goes with any other type of art work. I still think I could have done a better job and I still see room for improvement.

Audio (Recorded):
-The following song is called: Jerry Huynh - Cold Heart; this song was created for assignment #48. In hopes of achieving the intended goal of being, sad. The creation of this particular piece took roughly 4-5 hours at most. Took quite a bit of trail and error as well as actual "thinking" to put the song together the way I did. Overall the song is a compilation of piano, acoustic guitar and bass -- as goes with any other type of art work. I still think I could have done a better job and I still see room for improvement. Have a listen...of course if you had a choice, which you don't. So me saying that is just well, rhetorical and somewhat redundant? Ha:
